Hi, I’m Madeline.

It’s good to have you here!

I write essays about the books and movies I love. I also share my reading goals and update you regularly on my progress.

I called this newsletter The Heroine's Mirror because I believe every one of us is called to be a heroine (or a hero - shout out to the three men who read this!). A heroine or hero has qualities, which an older world called virtues, which help them rise to the occasion. We can learn from them, not as we would learn from a didactic lecture about the importance of being good boys and girls, but as we learn from a talented athlete or musician: inspiration and imitation. A book can be a mirror, not to show us just what we are, but what we should be.

If you like Tolkien, try out these essays.

If you like poetry, try out these essays.
